Apple's iPhone Strategy Shifts: Two Launches a Year?

Apple is reportedly planning a major overhaul to its iPhone release schedule, moving from a single September event to two major launches per year. This shift, according to a report, signals a significant change in Apple's approach to its flagship product line.

The proposed new strategy will see Apple adopt a two-event launch schedule, similar to Samsung's. A September event will continue to be a mainstay, but will now focus on premium models. This includes the debut of Apple's first foldable iPhone, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, and a second-generation iPhone Air. The standard iPhone model, however, will be delayed to a Spring 2027 release, coupled with a new iteration of the budget-friendly iPhone 16e.

This strategic adjustment aims to boost overall iPhone sales by refreshing the product lineup more frequently. For years, Apple's annual iPhone sales figures have remained relatively stagnant. By spreading releases over two events, Apple hopes to invigorate consumer interest and drive more frequent upgrades. The speculated second event, tentatively scheduled for March, is intended to coincide with the launch of the new standard iPhone and the iPhone 16e successor.

Apple's foray into the foldable phone market is particularly noteworthy. Seven years after Samsung introduced the Galaxy Fold, Apple is poised to enter the competition with a device featuring a 'book-style' design, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold and Pixel Fold, rather than a clamshell design. The foldable iPhone is expected to feature a 5.7-inch external screen and an 8-inch internal display.

The report also mentions challenges with the iPhone 17 Air's battery life. Apple is reportedly considering including a battery case to extend battery performance, a move that might somewhat negate the slim design of the phone itself.
